This is Asklepos, the Alpha Legion Librarian, Omegon's operative. Incredibly ancient and more so cunning, this man's wisdom is comparable only to his power. Many an diversion, a war has been carried out according to his plan, dealing a blow after blow to the hated order he and his brothers sworn to destroy. Asklepos is an expert on human nature and behavior, able to see through the tangled webs of Imperial politics and chaos tides.
The initial concept was to tie the Alpha Legion to some identifiable aesthetics. When I first sketched down this bust, I didn't know where to go, but then it hit me - the letters, Alpha and Omega, the Hydra symbol - of course, it should be Hellas, Greek aesthetics. I've scattered the said symbolism and mythological references all around the picture and I hope it would be nice to look at it.
Technically, it's was very complicated, the initial size of the canvas around 7000x6000 pix, and working on it I've got the worst tunnel syndrom ever.
Another interesting thing about it is that I've done it in Painter Tool SAI. Unfortunately, right when I was doing the picture, my trial period expired, and I couldn't save it. So I've screencapped the pic part by part, all in all in 15 parts, and then reassembled them in PS, which was one hell of a job. But I saved it.
Still, I think it payed off. It's one of those pictures i consider a personal achievement.
Its a great piece. I've felt you've always 'neglected' your strength in line art, and this is a celebration of it. The level and quality of detail is excellent, you've forged this armor out of potent, complex shapes that add to the character of the piece. I enjoy the stylized serpentine head, skull and various components of this (librarian turned to chaos?)'s torso the most. You've an equal mix of traditional SM shapes and strong Chaos corruption and I like that.
The only part I don't like is the character's face. The Serpentine styling I like, but the left eye seems off in your attempt to have it focusing on the viewer. If this was an attempt for form a stronger reptilian feel for the face (ie, wider-set eyes), the rest of the face's structure (sans the jawline) doesn't lend to this. If the face is supposed to be asymmetric, more strained detail would make this more apparent. This Chaos boy's face doesn't match, or at least give credit to the insanely perfect uber-detail of the rest of the character. I love complex line art, and this is top notch complex line art. You, good sir, should feel proud.
I am glad you saved that pic. Sounds really difficult. There are so much details in it, that I must watch really carefully, because I get lost in it. Every time I look at it I discover new things. This must be a real hard job, but I ask you anyway. Can I try to colour it?
This is the work of an extremely talented psychopath, the style reminds me of Geof Darrow. Also while you seem like a total delusional shut in, your half baked philosophy and skewed alternative perspective on reality is at least entertaining... in a Faces of Death kinda way. Keep up the critical and obsessive behavior, even Orwell wrote 1984 in his bed while dying of TB.
This is just crazily good. Ultimately (in the not too distant future) I want to reach your consistently high standard of line drawings, digital paintings, and so on.
I see few of your graphics and I like it much, maybe as "Chaotic" as well. I really like the german WWII outfit inspirations on traitor guardsmen. Nice look it gives, maybe I will see less nazi symbols on graphics. You've got nice style.
