Description

I have worked on this picture around 6 hours total for two days. It started out as a speedpaint, but then have grown into something different - into an experiment with light, shading, an value.

I need to say, that working on this picture I learned a load of different stuff. It's funny how doodles actually help to improve and learn smthg new than some of the hard, serious works.

As you can see, I've decided to further accent the perspective by selectively using bold black outlines. I tried a bit of motion blur, and colored different parts of the work in different techniques. I've also used multiple source lighting and a horizontal compostion, which I rarely do. Then I have put the grunge textures and applied a sharpening filter which surprisingly gave the picture more depth.

The result you can see - I tried to achieve something close to the codex arts, though working in my favourite red-grey-black pallete. My goal was to capture the "berserk" emotion, pure unadultered hatred.

Though this IS a Possessed Marine, I stepped away from the traditional "mutant-monster" type to the more Christian understanding of possesion. There isn't much outright warped in the guy - except for his mind))

Again, some noise/ebm/electro as the soundtrack to the creation of this piece:

- schallfactor

Another thing I noticed - you and skulls.
SKULLS AREN'T THAT NARROW.

As usual, the jaw is off. I never get tired of saying it.

I think the picture would work better if there was more variety in saturation, if not in hue.
The black outlines give it a whole different mood, sorta like... if Frank Miller used textures.

I have no idea what's going on on the part of the picture that isn't his face, maybe a change in hue/saturation would help clear the line between foreground and background.

And the composition looks too cluttered on the right side compared to the left side.
