Yet, soon enough the Operator was lingering on the streets of Port Clang at day, mazing along its putrid alleys and carts with cooking food, scaring away cats and children. Gaunt, with awkward wheezing manipulators hanging underneath the tattered sleeves of his uniform. No ties, no fear – that scared some, but attracted others.
Port Klang was a deranged puzzle of smells, drugs and typical Asian exultation. He, a foreigner, struggled to navigate the arcologies of Malay criminal subcultures and find the right deals to repair his injuries. Sometimes, it meant to get down in the dirt, to wake up from a painkiller high and smell blood on his metal limbs. He longed for the concrete-n-glass spires of Macao, but the ground, the hospital's flood-white bunks and cheap booze held him tight.
